Candle Care & Wax Melt Tips & Safety!

Candle Care

To allow your candle to burn to it's full potential it is absolutely necessary to follow these steps.

1. On your first burn, allow your candle to burn all the way to the edge of the jar walls before turning it off. It may take about 2 or 3hrs but it may help prevent tunneling

Tunneling happens when you don’t allow the candle to burn to the jar walls causing  it to create a small pool-like effect that continues to burn only down the center of the candle. Every-time you light up the candle from then on it will remember that exact burning point and continue to burn downward, like a tunnel. This causes the rest of the un-burned wax closer to the edge of the jar to be untouched by the flame, reducing the candle burn time and wasting precious wax.

2. TRIMMING. Most candles are shipped with its' wick already trim so trimming may not be necessary the first time.

However if the wick isn't already 1/4 of an inch be sure to trim your wick before you begin the first burn and every time thereafter. Not trimming the wick may cause it to burn hotter and faster creating a few problems.

By appropriately trimming the wick one problem we may be able to prevent is soot build-up, the black smoke that’s produce and forms around the walls of the candle jar. Trim the wick to 1/4 of an inch to allow for a cleaner and more even burn and remove any debris that may have fallen in. Wicks that are too long can also burn unevenly, faster and can eventually drown, extinguishing your candle and interrupting the burning process.

By taking some of these small steps we can enjoy a longer and smoother burn and really enjoy the benefits of aromatherapy candles.
